1. Opening Scripture
Psalm 18:1–3 (KJV)
I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
2. Introduction: God Is Our Security in Every Storm
Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,
Life is full of unexpected battles. Sometimes we face challenges we never expected. Sometimes the people we trust disappoint us. Sometimes our financial situation becomes difficult, our families experience problems, our health becomes weak, and our future seems uncertain.
There are moments when we feel surrounded by problems, just as David was surrounded by enemies.
But there is one truth we must never forget:
When everything around us is shaking, God remains unshakable.
David did not say that the Lord was simply a rock or a fortress. He declared:
"The LORD is MY rock, MY fortress, and MY deliverer."
Notice the word MY.
David had a personal relationship with God. He knew God not only through what he had heard from others but through his own experiences.
He had experienced God's protection in the wilderness, God's faithfulness during battles, and God's deliverance when King Saul pursued him.
David understood that his security did not come from his military strength, his position, his wealth, or his friends.
His security came from God.
Today, we will discover three powerful truths about our God:
-
The Lord is my Rock – He gives me stability.
-
The Lord is my Fortress – He gives me protection.
-
The Lord is my Deliverer – He gives me victory and freedom.
3. POINT ONE: THE LORD IS MY ROCK
He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
A. A rock represents stability
A rock is strong, firm, and unmovable.
When storms come, trees may fall, houses may collapse, and rivers may overflow. But a solid rock remains firm.
This is how God wants us to understand His character.
Our circumstances may change, but God never changes.
People may change, but God remains faithful.
Our financial situation may change, but God remains our provider.
Our strength may become weak, but God remains strong.
Malachi 3:6 (KJV)
For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
Church, do not build your life on something that can easily disappear.
Do not build your faith on money, popularity, human relationships, or earthly success.
Build your life on Jesus Christ.
B. Jesus Christ is our solid foundation
Matthew 7:24–25 (KJV)
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Jesus did not promise that the rain would never come.
He did not promise that the wind would never blow.
He did not promise that His followers would never face difficulties.
Instead, He taught that when we build our lives upon His Word, we can remain standing even when the storms come.
There is a great difference between having a life without storms and having a life that remains strong through storms.
A Christian is not someone who never experiences problems. A Christian is someone who knows where to stand when problems come.
C. God is our strength when we are weak
Sometimes we reach a point where we cannot continue using our own strength.
We pray, but the situation does not change immediately. We work hard, but the results seem small. We encourage others, but sometimes we also need encouragement.
Remember:
Isaiah 40:29–31 (KJV)
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
God does not ask us to pretend that we are strong.
He invites us to depend on His strength.
When you are tired, He can renew you.
When you are discouraged, He can encourage you.
When you feel unable to continue, He can give you grace for another day.
Practical lesson:
Whatever you are facing today, do not allow your circumstances to become the foundation of your faith. Let Jesus Christ be your Rock.
Tell yourself:
"My circumstances may change, but my God will never change. My life is built upon the Rock."
4. POINT TWO: THE LORD IS MY FORTRESS
A fortress is a place of safety, security, and protection.
In ancient times, when enemies attacked a city, people would run into a fortified place where they could find protection.
David understood this picture very well.
He had experienced many dangerous situations. King Saul wanted to kill him, and David had to escape and hide in caves and wilderness places.
But David knew that his ultimate protection was not a cave, a wall, or a military army.
His ultimate protection was God.
A. God is our refuge in times of trouble
Psalm 91:1–2 (KJV)
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Notice the words: "I will say of the LORD."
Faith is not only something we believe in our hearts. It is also something we confess with our mouths.
When fear comes, declare that God is your refuge.
When difficulties come, remember that God is your fortress.
When the future seems uncertain, put your trust in Him.
B. God's protection does not mean the absence of battles
Sometimes Christians misunderstand God's protection.
They think that because they serve God, nothing bad will ever happen to them.
But the Bible teaches us that even faithful believers experience trials.
Psalm 34:19 (KJV)
Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
Notice that the Bible does not say that righteous people will never experience affliction.
It says that the Lord delivers them.
God's presence does not always remove the storm immediately, but He promises that we are not abandoned in the storm.
Consider the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Daniel 3:24–25 (KJV)
Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
They were thrown into the fire, but God was with them.
Their faithfulness did not prevent the furnace from being prepared, but God's presence sustained them inside it.
Beloved, you may be passing through a difficult season, but you are not alone.
God is with you.
C. God's protection gives us peace
Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Look at God's promises:
-
I am with thee.
-
I am thy God.
-
I will strengthen thee.
-
I will help thee.
-
I will uphold thee.
What a wonderful promise!
We may not know what tomorrow will bring, but we know the One who holds tomorrow.
Practical lesson:
Do not allow fear to control your decisions.
Do not allow difficult circumstances to destroy your peace.
Run to God in prayer. Read His Word. Remain faithful. Trust His promises.
Your fortress is not the absence of problems. Your fortress is the presence of God.
5. POINT THREE: THE LORD IS MY DELIVERER
One of the most beautiful names we can give to God is Deliverer.
A deliverer is someone who rescues people from danger, bondage, oppression, and destruction.
David knew God as his Deliverer because he had experienced God's intervention many times.
There were moments when David could not save himself. There were situations where his enemies were stronger than him.
But God rescued him.
A. God hears the cry of His children
Psalm 34:17 (KJV)
The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
This verse teaches us something very important.
When God's children cry out to Him, He hears them.
Sometimes we pray silently because we do not have the words to express our pain.
Sometimes we cry in our rooms where nobody can see our tears.
Sometimes we carry burdens that nobody knows about.
But God sees. God knows. God hears.
Remember the Israelites in Egypt.
They were suffering under slavery. They were oppressed, mistreated, and exhausted.
But God heard their cries.
Exodus 3:7–8 (KJV)
And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.
Notice four important things:
-
God saw their affliction.
-
God heard their cry.
-
God knew their sorrows.
-
God came to deliver them.
Your situation is not hidden from God.
He sees what you are going through. He hears your prayers. He knows your pain.
Never conclude that God has forgotten you simply because the answer has not yet appeared.
B. God can make a way where there seems to be no way
Exodus 14:13–14 (KJV)
And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
The Israelites found themselves in an impossible situation.
Behind them was Pharaoh's army.
In front of them was the Red Sea.
They had nowhere to go.
Humanly speaking, their situation looked hopeless.
But what was impossible for human beings was possible for God.
God opened the Red Sea, and His people walked through on dry ground.
Exodus 14:21–22 (KJV)
And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
What a mighty God we serve!
When there was no road, God created a road.
When there was no solution, God made a way.
When there was no human hope, God's power was revealed.
Beloved, never measure God's ability by the size of your problem.
Your problem may be bigger than your strength, but it is never bigger than God's power.
C. God delivers us from spiritual bondage
Deliverance is not only about physical problems.
Sometimes people are trapped in fear, bitterness, unforgiveness, sinful habits, discouragement, and spiritual bondage.
Jesus Christ came to set people free.
John 8:36 (KJV)
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Jesus did not come only to improve our circumstances.
He came to transform our lives.
He came to forgive our sins, restore our relationship with God, and give us eternal life.
Colossians 1:13–14 (KJV)
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
The greatest deliverance is the deliverance from sin through Jesus Christ.
We can have money and still be spiritually empty.
We can have success and still lack peace.
We can have many friends and still feel lost.
But when Jesus becomes Lord of our lives, we receive a new identity, a new purpose, and a new hope.
Practical lesson:
Whatever bondage you are facing, bring it before Jesus.
Do not hide your struggles from God.
Confess your sins, seek His forgiveness, trust His Word, and allow the Holy Spirit to transform your life.
God is able to rescue, restore, and renew.
6. POINT FOUR: THE LORD IS MY SHIELD AND MY STRONGHOLD
David did not stop by declaring that God was his Rock, Fortress, and Deliverer.
He continued by describing God as his shield and stronghold.
Psalm 18:2 (KJV)
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
A. God is our shield
A shield is used to protect a soldier from attacks.
In the same way, God protects His children.
Psalm 3:3 (KJV)
But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
Sometimes the enemy attacks our minds through fear, discouragement, temptation, and doubt.
But we must remember that our battle is spiritual.
Ephesians 6:16 (KJV)
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Faith helps us stand against the attacks of the enemy.
When the enemy says you cannot succeed, remember God's promises.
When fear says you are alone, remember that God is with you.
When temptation comes, remember that you belong to Christ.
B. God is our stronghold
A stronghold is a secure place where enemies cannot easily reach us.
Nahum 1:7 (KJV)
The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
Notice that this Scripture does not say that God is good only when everything is going well.
It says that He is a stronghold in the day of trouble.
God is good when you have a job, and He is still good when you are looking for one.
God is good when your family is healthy, and He is still good when you are facing difficulties.
God is good when prayers are answered quickly, and He is still good when you must wait.
His goodness does not depend on our circumstances.
Practical lesson:
Do not let the enemy steal your confidence in God.
Put on the whole armour of God, stand in faith, and continue walking with Jesus.
7. POINT FIVE: WE MUST LEARN TO TRUST GOD IN EVERY SEASON
David said:
Psalm 18:2 (KJV)
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust...
The words "in whom I will trust" are very important.
It is one thing to know that God is powerful.
It is another thing to trust Him with your life.
A. Trust God even when you do not understand
Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Sometimes we want God to explain everything before we obey Him.
We want to see the whole picture before taking the next step.
But faith means trusting God even when we cannot see the entire road.
Abraham trusted God when he was called to leave his homeland.
Noah trusted God when he built the ark.
Moses trusted God when he stood before Pharaoh.
David trusted God when he faced Goliath.
Their circumstances were different, but they shared one thing: they trusted the Lord.
B. Trust God while you are waiting
Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Waiting is not always easy.
Sometimes we pray for a breakthrough, but nothing seems to happen.
We pray for our children, our families, our ministries, our finances, and our future.
But remember: God's timing is not the same as our timing.
Do not abandon your faith because you have not yet received your answer.
Continue praying.
Continue serving.
Continue believing.
Continue obeying the Word of God.
C. Remember what God has already done
David remembered God's past faithfulness.
He knew that the God who delivered him yesterday was still powerful enough to help him tomorrow.
Lamentations 3:22–23 (KJV)
It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
When you feel discouraged, remember how far God has brought you.
Remember the prayers He answered.
Remember the doors He opened.
Remember the dangers He brought you through.
Remember His mercy.
If God has been faithful in the past, you have every reason to trust Him today.
8. POINT SIX: PRAISE GOD BEFORE YOU SEE THE VICTORY
Psalm 18:3 (KJV) I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
David understood the power of praise.
He did not praise God only after receiving blessings.
He recognized that God was worthy of praise because of who He was.
A. Praise is an expression of faith
Habakkuk 3:17–18 (KJV)
Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Habakkuk described a situation where everything seemed to be failing.
There was no harvest, no fruit, and no visible evidence of prosperity.
Yet he made a decision:
"I will rejoice in the LORD."
That is the faith God wants us to develop.
Praise Him when the doors open.
Praise Him when the doors remain closed.
Praise Him when you receive good news.
Praise Him when you are waiting for an answer.
Our praise should not depend only on what we receive from God. It should come from our relationship with Him.
B. Praise can strengthen us during battles
Consider Paul and Silas.
Acts 16:25–26 (KJV)
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.
They were beaten, imprisoned, and chained.
Yet they prayed and praised God at midnight.
Their circumstances did not silence their worship.
Church, do not allow your difficult season to take away your praise.
You may be experiencing midnight, but midnight does not mean God has abandoned you.
Continue to worship Him.
Continue to trust Him.
Continue to call upon His name.
9. HOW CAN WE MAKE THE LORD OUR ROCK, FORTRESS, AND DELIVERER?
We must respond to God's promises with practical faith.
1. Build your life on God's Word.
Read the Bible daily. Obey His instructions. Let His Word guide your decisions.
2. Develop a consistent prayer life.
Do not wait until trouble comes before you pray. Build a relationship with God every day.
3. Remain faithful during difficult seasons.
Do not abandon God when circumstances become challenging. Continue serving Him with a sincere heart.
4. Put your confidence in Jesus Christ.
Do not depend entirely on human strength, money, connections, or personal ability. Depend on God.
5. Share your testimony with others.
When God delivers you, tell others what He has done. Your testimony may encourage someone who is going through a difficult season.
10. CONCLUSION: MY GOD IS MY ROCK!
Beloved brothers and sisters,
Let us return to the declaration of David:
"The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer."
This is more than a beautiful Bible verse.
It is a declaration of faith.
When life becomes difficult, the Lord is your Rock.
When enemies surround you, the Lord is your Fortress.
When you are trapped in trouble, the Lord is your Deliverer.
When you are weak, the Lord is your Strength.
When the enemy attacks, the Lord is your Shield.
When you have nowhere to turn, the Lord is your Refuge.
I want you to remember something:
-
Your job is not your ultimate security. God is your security.
-
Your money is not your ultimate protection. God is your protection.
-
Your connections are not your ultimate source of help. God is your helper.
-
Your circumstances do not determine God's faithfulness.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:8 (KJV) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Therefore, whatever you are facing today, do not give up.
Keep praying.
Keep believing.
Keep trusting.
Keep serving God.
Keep standing on His Word.
The storm may come, but your Rock remains.
The enemy may attack, but your Fortress remains.
The battle may be difficult, but your Deliverer remains faithful.
And one day, when we finish our journey on earth, we will rejoice in the presence of our Lord forever.
Let us declare together:
THE LORD IS MY ROCK!
THE LORD IS MY FORTRESS!
THE LORD IS MY DELIVERER!
I WILL TRUST IN HIM!
11. ALTAR CALL: HAVE YOU MADE JESUS YOUR ROCK?
Before we close, I want to ask you an important question.
Is Jesus Christ truly the foundation of your life?
You may attend church every Sunday, sing worship songs, and participate in ministry activities, but have you personally surrendered your life to Him?
The Bible says:
Romans 10:9 (KJV)
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Today, Jesus is calling you to put your trust in Him.
If you have never surrendered your life to Jesus, you can pray this prayer sincerely.
Prayer of Salvation
Heavenly Father,
I come before You today in the name of Jesus Christ.
I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that I need Your forgiveness.
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died on the cross for my sins, and that He rose again on the third day.
Lord Jesus, I invite You into my heart.
Forgive my sins. Wash me with Your precious blood. Make me a new creation.
From today, I surrender my life to You.
Be my Lord, my Saviour, my Rock, my Fortress, and my Deliverer.
Help me to follow You faithfully all the days of my life.
Thank You for saving me.
In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
12. CLOSING PRAYER: LORD, BE MY ROCK, MY FORTRESS, AND MY DELIVERER
Heavenly Father,
We come before Your holy presence today with thanksgiving and praise.
Lord, You are our Rock, our Fortress, and our Deliverer.
There is no one like You. You are the Almighty God, the Creator of heaven and earth, the One who never fails and never changes.
Father, forgive us for the times we have depended more on our own strength than on Your power.
Forgive us for allowing fear, anxiety, and doubt to control our hearts.
Today, we choose to put our complete trust in You.
Lord, be our Rock!
When the storms of life come, help us to stand firm in Your Word.
When our strength becomes weak, renew us through Your Holy Spirit.
When our circumstances change, remind us that Your promises never change.
Lord, be our Fortress!
Protect our families, our children, our homes, our churches, and our ministries.
Protect us from the plans of the enemy.
Give us wisdom to make the right decisions and courage to stand for righteousness.
Lord, be our Deliverer!
Deliver those who are struggling.
Bring hope to those who are discouraged.
Provide for those who are in financial difficulties.
Comfort those who are grieving.
Strengthen those who are weak.
Restore those who have lost their hope.
Set free those who are struggling with spiritual bondage.
Father, we pray for every family represented here today.
May Your peace fill their homes. May Your love unite them. May Your grace sustain them.
We pray for our churches and ministries. Give us the passion to preach Your Gospel, make disciples, serve others, and bring people into Your Kingdom.
When we face impossible situations, remind us that nothing is impossible with You.
When we walk through the valley, walk with us.
When we face the fire, sustain us.
When we encounter the Red Sea, make a way according to Your perfect will.
Lord, we declare today that our hope is in You alone.
We will not be moved because You are our foundation.
We will not surrender to fear because You are our protection.
We will not lose hope because You are our Deliverer.
Thank You, Father, because You have been faithful in the past, You are faithful today, and You will remain faithful forever.
In the mighty and wonderful name of Jesus Christ, we pray.
AMEN AND AMEN!
13. FINAL DECLARATIONS OF FAITH
You can invite the congregation to repeat these declarations aloud.
-
The Lord is my Rock; I shall not be moved!
-
The Lord is my Fortress; I am not alone!
-
The Lord is my Deliverer; I will not live in fear!
-
The Lord is my Strength; I will not give up!
-
The Lord is my Shield; I will stand in faith!
-
My family belongs to God!
-
My future is in God's hands!
-
My hope is in Jesus Christ!
-
I will trust the Lord in every season!
-
I will praise Him all the days of my life!
THE LORD IS MY ROCK!
THE LORD IS MY FORTRESS!
THE LORD IS MY DELIVERER!
I WILL TRUST IN HIM!
