Why the Enemy Fights Grace So Hard
(A grace-centered sermon inspired by the biblical message often emphasized by Joseph Prince of New Creation Church)
Main Texts: Romans 5:20–21; Romans 6:14; Hebrews 4:14–16; Galatians 5:1; 2 Corinthians 10:3–5
Introduction: There Is a Battle Over Grace
Beloved, the greatest spiritual battle in the church is not over morality.
It is not over politics.
It is not even over miracles.
The greatest battle is over grace.
Because when you understand grace, you understand Jesus.
And when you understand Jesus, you walk in victory.
Romans 5:20 declares:
“Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more.”
Notice the phrase much more.
Sin may increase—but grace super-abounds.
The enemy fights grace because grace is greater than his power.
1. Grace Removes Condemnation — And Condemnation Is His Weapon
Revelation 12:10 calls Satan “the accuser of the brethren.”
His strategy has never changed:
-
Accuse.
-
Condemn.
-
Remind you of your failures.
-
Make you feel unworthy before God.
But Romans 8:1 says:
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Under grace:
-
You are not defined by your past.
-
You are not judged by your failures.
-
You are declared righteous through Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 4:16 says:
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Notice it says throne of grace, not throne of judgment.
The enemy fights grace because grace gives you boldness.
And a believer who approaches God boldly is dangerous.
When condemnation is removed, confidence rises.
When confidence rises, faith operates.
When faith operates, victory manifests.
2. Grace Frees You From Self-Effort
The law says:
-
Do more.
-
Try harder.
-
Earn it.
Grace says:
-
It is finished.
-
Jesus has done it.
-
Receive it.
John 19:30 — Jesus said, “It is finished.”
Grace is not about what you do for God.
Grace is about what Jesus has done for you.
Galatians 5:1 says:
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free.”
The enemy prefers believers who strive in their own strength. Why?
Because self-effort produces:
-
Pride when you succeed.
-
Despair when you fail.
But grace produces dependence on Christ.
2 Corinthians 12:9 says:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
When you rely on grace:
-
God’s strength replaces your weakness.
-
God’s power replaces your striving.
The enemy fights grace because grace activates divine power.
3. Grace Establishes You in Righteousness
Romans 5:17 declares:
“Those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”
Notice:
-
Righteousness is a gift.
-
Grace is received.
-
Reigning is the result.
You do not reign by performance.
You reign by receiving.
The enemy does not want you reigning in life:
-
Reigning over sin.
-
Reigning over fear.
-
Reigning over sickness.
-
Reigning over defeat.
He wants you struggling.
But when you receive grace, you reign.
That is why he fights it so hard.
4. Grace Breaks Sin’s Dominion
Some misunderstand grace and say it encourages sin.
But the Bible says the opposite.
Romans 6:14:
“For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”
Notice the connection:
-
Under law → sin dominates.
-
Under grace → sin loses dominion.
Why?
Because law demands performance but gives no power.
Grace supplies both righteousness and power.
Titus 2:11–12 says:
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age.”
Grace teaches.
Grace transforms.
Grace empowers holy living.
The enemy fights grace because grace destroys his control over sin.
5. Grace Renews the Mind
Spiritual warfare often takes place in the mind.
2 Corinthians 10:3–5 says:
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal… casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.”
The battlefield is your thoughts.
The enemy plants lies:
-
“God is disappointed in you.”
-
“You are not good enough.”
-
“You must earn His blessing.”
Grace replaces lies with truth:
-
You are accepted in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6).
-
You are complete in Him (Colossians 2:10).
-
You are justified freely by His grace (Romans 3:24).
When your mind is renewed with grace:
-
Fear diminishes.
-
Peace increases.
-
Faith grows.
And the enemy loses access.
6. Grace Anchors You in God’s Love
1 John 4:18 says:
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear.”
Grace reveals perfect love.
The enemy uses fear to control.
Grace uses love to free.
When you know:
-
God is for you,
-
God is not against you,
-
God has justified you,
then Romans 8:33–34 becomes real:
“Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.”
The enemy cannot successfully accuse whom God has justified.
Grace shuts the courtroom of accusation.
Conclusion: Stand Firm in Grace
Beloved, do not be surprised when grace is attacked.
If the enemy can:
-
Distort grace,
-
Dilute grace,
-
Or replace grace with legalism,
he weakens believers.
But when you stand in grace:
-
You walk in righteousness.
-
You reign in life.
-
You overcome condemnation.
-
You experience true transformation.
1 Peter 5:12 says:
“This is the true grace of God in which you stand.”
Stand in grace.
Because grace is not weak.
Grace is not passive.
Grace is not permission to sin.
Grace is the finished work of Jesus applied to your life.
And that is why the enemy fights it so hard.
Amen.
